I think its time to standardize the Lebanese language. No, not to piss off March 8. I actually think its an important step in our nation’s development. We all identify with our language as that which we express ourselves most comfortably in. We also see that despite it being an offshoot of Arabic, Lebanese is in reality a language in its own right. So, I think its time to realize that Lebanon needs a well developed language with which it can formulate a strong national identity.
I would suggest establishing a commission to examine the necessity of standardizing Lebanese and establishing what sorts of obstacles there would be to such a project. Those could be both practical, related to the language itself, or political and social, such as overcoming the massive negative impression many Lebanese on the left associate with such a project.
I realize that some will say that the language has already been standardized. But this needs to be done with complete national consensus. This is not a project to exclude anyone, but rather to create a new chapter of Lebanese national unity. It might well be a creative way to overcome some of the political rigidity we are currently experiencing by breathing fresh ideas into the air.
But Spoken Lebanese has studied, abroad, like arabic… Also I think its time to standardize the Lebanese but it is possible also for arabic in LLL System. I think to Maltese language. To standardize the Lebanese is possible also like dialect: ‘ayn is 3 but sometimes x or 9. Only one way…
